The event was chaired by Dr Susan Purbrick who covered the many aspects of mental illness from her point of view as a GP.
Alison Fraser, a community psychiatric nurse, spoke about services available in the community for young and old alike such as the community support and outreach teams. There is help available in the community for those suffering from all types of mental illness such as eating disorders, drug and alcohol misuse, depression, anxiety, dementia and post-natal depression.
Gail Robinson and Sandra Devine from the Meadows in Borehamwood spoke about their work at this older persons inpatient unit. A specialist unit, the Meadows provides inpatient care for older people suffering from complex physical and mental health needs.
Lastly, Simon des Forges from Herts Viewpoint gave an insight into the work of this local mental health charity. Herts Viewpoint is a mental health service user involvement project helping to ensure that the people who use the local mental health services can help to make positive changes to them.
Simon also spoke about the Herts Mind Network who provide a wide range of recovery orientated services for people suffering from mental illness.
