Appointments

Appointments

You can expect under normal circumstances, and providing you telephone the surgery in the morning, to be offered an appointment with a doctor if necessary on the same day.

We do, however, ask you to book appointments for routine and follow-up conditions in advance. This will allow you more opportunity to see the doctor of your choice.

Appointments can be made by telephoning your normal surgery of attendance, or by booking them online.

Appointments Online

You can now book GP appointments with the Practice over the internet. This service, which is available through EMIS Access, allows you to view, book and cancel GP appointments via the internet 24 hours a day. Please be aware that the text you enter as part of  the "reason" will be displayed next to your appointment booking on our appointment system.

For details on how to book your next appointment on line please ask at reception for a Registration Letter then follow the instructions on the EMIS link.

Unfortunately at this time, we are unable to offer on line booking of nursing appointments. This is due to the way we configure our appointment system for nurse appointments. However ,we will continue to look at alternative ways in which we may be able to provide this function in the future.

Same Day Appointments

These consultations are shorter in length and enable patients to be seen on the day.

If you are a Carpenders Park patient you may be asked to attend Bushey Health Centre.

Our reception staff will ask you a few details about your condition and book you into the Urgent Care Clinic.

You will be allocated an appointment with an urgent care practitioner. We cannot offer you a choice of practitioner and you may be allocated to a practice nurse who has been appropriately trained and is supported by a doctor.

Afternoon Telephone Triage

Triage literally means sorting.

When patients telephone the surgery and ask for urgent medical advice in the afternoon, their contact number and a brief note of the problem is given to the duty doctor.

The duty doctor then telephones each patient, gives advice if appropriate or organises a time for the patient to come to the surgery to be seen. In this way, those who are ill can be seen soonest, without a long wait in the waiting room.

It is not advisable to come to the surgery without ringing first as you will not be included in the triage system and may find you have to wait some time.

If you'd like to speak to one of the doctors over the telephone

The practice has a procedure in place which enables you to speak to either your GP or practice nurse, should you need advice, during normal surgery opening times.

Your telephone call will be logged by a member of our reception team and a message passed to the appropriate person. They will return your call usually the same working day if they are available in the surgery.

It helps both, our reception staff and doctors and nurses, if you can give concise but accurate details about your enquiry. This will enable us to deal with your enquiry in the most efficient way and provide you with the most appropriate response and advice.

Routine Appointments

These are appointments for problems that can wait two working days. This means that if you make the request on Monday - we should offer an appointment no later than Wednesday.

Routine Appointments are for booked for 10 minutes.

If you have a more complex problem or several problems to discuss, please book a double appointment with reception to allow the doctor extra time with you.

Advanced Appointment Booking

We do ask you to book appointments for routine and follow-up conditions in advance. This will also allow you more opportunity to see the doctor of your choice.
